Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce wishes to remind everybody that March is Fraud Prevention Month.
Every year, thousands of Canadians, regardless of age, gender and location, fall victim to fraud amassing losses in the millions of dollars.
During the month of March, the OPP and its partners -- the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Competition Bureau of Canada – will join police services across the country to promote public awareness to help prevent all Canadians from becoming victims of fraud.
There are currently five popular fraud scams to be aware of:
- Emergency/Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scams
- Romance Scam
- Microsoft/Computer scams
- Phishing/Bank Web Site scams
- Lottery scams
Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce reminds everyone to better protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud by never giving out personal information at your door, over the phone, through social media, or on dating websites; and if you are being asked to send money or provide credit card information by phone or e-mail, first check with a family member or trusted friend to verify the information.
REMEMBER – Don’t become a victim!
