On the afternoon of Sunday September 24, 2023 the public is invited to join in on a car tour that will show off the fall beauty of old Keppel Township, in support of Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce.
Take your car, family and friends to one of four starting locations and follow the maps given out by Crime Stoppers volunteers. Motorists are not expected to cover all these roads on the map in one afternoon but are encouraged to retain this map as your invitation to return many times throughout all the seasons to take in all that old Keppel Township has to offer.
The Tour commences at 1:00 PM sharp. The locations are:
The Port Elgin Plex
Grey Roots Museum
Sauble Beach Community Centre
The Wiarton-Keppel International Airport
This is an introductory scramble tour and you are encouraged to travel on your own or in groups. Make many stops along the way. Keep your camera ready; surprise opportunities abound everywhere.
The included map shows several stop points of particular interest. You may wish to linger a little longer to take in the views and points of interest.
The lands on the Keppel Peninsula are a very storied part of Grey County. From the initial 1857 purchase from the Chippewa (Ojibway) Nation to the sale of the 100 acre parcels of surveyed lands, the township has slowly revealed the colourful scenic vistas we see today.
With Colpoy's Bay to the west, Georgian Bay to the north and Owen Sound Harbour to the east this peninsula boasts the most breathtaking and varied scenery in the least amount of space in the province. It is this condensed beauty we encourage you to appreciate.
Afterward you are welcome to stop off and view the wide array of classic and hobby vehicles at the Wiarton-Keppel International Airport, beginning at Noon, or take part in the tour beginning at 1:00 PM and return to the show at your leisure. There will be restaurant, food truck, and washroom services available.
