Crime Stoppers of Grey-Bruce News

The year 2021 marks the 34th year of operations for Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce, in which we proudly recognize National Crime Stoppers Month.  The Board of Directors remain steadfast in their desire to provide services that allow all residents of Grey and Bruce an avenue in which to be "part of the solution"; an avenue upon which, through anonymous tips, has assisted towards the seizure of over 53.6 Million dollars in drugs and recovered stolen property from the streets of our counties.

We're proud to be in a region where citizens are looking out for one another and as a result tips, since 1987, have brought about the arrest of 1,700 people and the clearing of 2,693 cases.  We're proud because we hear so often that it's because of the anonymity provided by the Crime Stoppers program that calls are made, and not necessarily the offer of cash rewards. Indeed, although we have authorized $277,810 in rewards many go unclaimed. We do this all with the help of our generous donors.  That’s right, Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce is a registered charity and relies on the generosity of the people and corporate donors in Grey Bruce.

The Crime Stoppers movement is based on three essential elements - the community, the media, and law enforcement.  Our local program is operated by a group of volunteers, including a volunteer Board of Directors who oversee the program as well as raising funds and increasing public awareness of Crime Stoppers in the community.  The media aids the program by publicizing case re-enactments or details about a case not yet solved or a person wanted on a warrant, and law enforcement receives the anonymous tip information from our office staff and follows that information through to its conclusion.

Every January, the 1,200 Crime Stoppers Programs throughout the world celebrate National Crime Stoppers Month, and our theme for 2021 is “Helping All Communities Stay Safe”.  Crime Stoppers programs across Canada work within their communities to educate and bring awareness to crimes such as Opioid and Fentanyl trafficking, contraband smuggling, and human trafficking, both locally as well as around the world.
